They say it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert at something.
With 10,000 hours of practice, your brain is rewired. Change takes hold. What once felt foreign and unnatural is now familiar and natural.
10,000 hours is kind of a lot. That’s 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, for about 3 ½ years. But here’s the good news: you start seeing benefits way before you hit the 10,000 hour mark.
You’re brain is rewiring each time you enforce change. Each time you catch a pattern and stop it mid-cycle. Or interrupt the automatic chain of events. Or tap into the bigger picture of what you want and choose from there. Each of these activities activates change and those changes snowball.
It all goes to work on your brain. And it changes you and your patterns forever.
So the 10,000 hour thing isn’t as daunting as it may sound. Only 3 ½ years of full time work and you’re done, but…you’ll see change much, much sooner than that. Each change is infinitely easier than the last and the effects build on each other quickly.
That’s very good news.
